A few weeks ago, I responded to a tweet looking for people who were wiling to be involved in an experiment that will last 24 days. Quite literally, that was about all the information that was given. Of course, I sent in an email right away.
After all, its not like the tweet came from a complete stranger. It was from New York Times best selling author and Dave Ramsey employee, Jon Acuff . Yes, the same Jon Acuff who wrote one of my favorite books, Quitter. The same Jon Acuff I met in the hotel lobby while I was at Dave Ramsey Counselor training and the same Jon Acuff who very nicely took 3 minutes out of his busy morning to sign my copy of Gazelles, Baby Steps and 37 other things Dave Ramsey taught me about Debt.
So, even though I didn’t know what I was signing up for, I knew it wasn’t going to be some sort of a scam. I knew it was going to be a bit challenging and maybe require me to go a bit out of my comfort zone. I was excited about the challenge!
So, I sent in the email, got a reply that I was accepted and filled out a survey!
There are just over 2,000 people participating in this challenge. I am in a smaller group of 24 who all chose to be in a group based on location. I am the only person in the group who lives in SE NC.
The basic assignment was to choose something to really work/focus on for the next 24 days. I didn’t spend a lot of time thinking or stressing about what I wanted to work on. I literally just wrote down the first three things that came to mind when I filled out the survey. Ok, I know I was only supposed to pick one thing, but three came to mind so I went with it.
The cool thing about the challenge is that we have been paired with a partner. We are to get to know each other, share our goals and support and encourage each other throughout the process. All through email.
Do you know the first thing my partner did after learning my goals?
She challenged me! Yes! Right away!
I was glad she did. I needed that. My goals were too vague, I knew that when I wrote them down. She saw that too when she read them.
Day 1 of 24: DEFINE the goals.
What ONE thing ( or three ) can you focus and work on for the next 24 days?
Feel free to join me along the journey!
