I learned a lot yesterday about The Haters after I wrote about them. I also read a lot of encouraging words about how to ignore the haters. Here’s my encouragement idea – make a list of your accomplishments, no matter how big or small. I’m fairly certain this idea will work although I have, truthfully, never tried it myself. But a similar idea worked, so I am willing to give it a try.
The similar idea is not my original idea. I read it somewhere or someone told me about it. The important thing is that I remembered it when I needed it the most.
It’s a simple statement: Remember all the good times.
I remembered it in March of 2012, when my dog, Annie, died. I had rescued her from the shelter when she was about a year old and she was 16 when she died. Yes, we were sort of expecting it, but she got sick and passed within 48 hours. That part was unexpected. I was very, very sad because in our home, our dogs are just furry kids. Annie and I had been through a lot together. It really helped, whenever I was really, really sad, to remember the good times and that made me smile. It’s kind of hard to be really sad when you are smiling.
So, I know that worked and I am willing to give it a try against The Haters, too.
Remember ALL that you have already accomplished. Make a list: (here’s mine)
1. I graduated College and earned a degree.
2. I had a successful teaching career.
3. I have been married for 12 years.
4. I am a Mom.
5. I have rescued 5 dogs – 3 from the shelter, 2 were homeless.
6. I am an entrepreneur.
7. I used to have 5 credit cards with balances on them, now I have 2.
8. I used to have a car payment, now I have none.
9. I am a writer.
10. I manage a household.
and the list could go on and on…. just write until you can’t think of anything else.
When The Haters come, REMEMBER THIS LIST. Do not let them diminish all that you have already accomplished. DO NOT let them steal your joy, your dream, your goal.
Let the haters hate, you got this! You can do it! You have already proven to yourself that you can accomplish great things!
What’s next on your list?
