Well, now, that’s a real big multi-point scrabble word isn’t it???
What does it mean to you?
My unofficial Facebook poll prompted responses like, “tacky”, “gaul”, “feisty”, “extravagant”.
It means “extremely bold or daring, lively, unrestrained, uninhibited.”
Synonyms are “courageous, intrepid”
I firmly believe you have to be audacious if you are really going to make your dream come true. You have to have a BIG, audacious goal and then set out to make it happen.
Just like I did. On this one particular night, in pursuit of a dream I have had for over 20 years.
It all started out as an idea: Make a sign.
Then, the questions: Who am I to make this sign? What if it doesn’t work? What if this fails? This is a dumb idea. I’ll look stupid. What if, what if, what if…
Well, what if it DOES work? The PRO of it actually working far outweighed the con.
Then, I made the decision. I made the sign.
My original plan was to try to get each member of the band to meet me at the end of the stage as they were exiting to sign my ticket. Yes, that was my plan.
So, I held up that sign so they could see it. It felt scary and exciting at the same time. AND IT WORKED – sort of. I only met 20% of my goal. But what an awesome 20% it was!! I got to personally meet and chat with the guys from 2Cellos. They are both so incredibly sweet and have fascinating accents. THEY saw my sign and nodded and through various means of made up sign language to get the point across, met me at the end of the stage and signed my ticket!!!
I was SO excited that THIS happened all because I took a chance on being audacious. I was bold. The very worst that could happen is that I would feel silly holding up that sign and no one would sign my ticket. But that’s the same thing that would have happened if I DIDN’T make the sign and take the chance.
That dream that I have been chasing for twenty years? Personally meet Elton John. I fell in love with his music the first time I ever heard the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album. I am fascinated with his life story. There is no measure to the level of happiness I feel when I see him live in concert – despite the fact that I have seen him over 20 times. I know all the songs and it never gets old.
My 20th show was in the middle of a three show run my friend and I attended. Yes, three nights in a row, three concerts in a row, three different cities. We had front row tickets for all three nights.
Because sometimes you just have to do crazy stuff like that to pursue your dream.
Now, go and be audacious in the pursuit of YOUR dream!
If you never try, you’ll never succeed.
