Today was created as a day of rest – I hope you will take some time to do that today. For me, its Church services and Football. That is my Sunday. Every morning, however, I start my day with some centering – focusing first on God, then everything else. And you know what? Things are changing.
I’m NOT checking email, Sportscenter, text messages and social media first thing in the morning. No, I’m checking in with God first thing in the morning. And I’m not missing out on things, things like a new author I discovered through Ann Voskamp.
Have I mentioned before how much I LOVE Ann Voskamp? I read her blog EVERY DAY. I am re-reading The Greatest Gift – I didn’t do so well keeping up with it during Advent. And, some friends of mine and I are participating in the Scripture memorization project from the Gospel of John.
She recently shared some of HER favorite things, one of them being an author – Jennifer Dukes Lee.
I found her through Ann’s recent blog post because THIS got my attention:
“Yes! Let’s do this: How to Live Outside of the Box this Year
I don’t know about you, but my brain went into automatic thinking, pondering mode after I read the first two lines:
I’ve heard it said before: “We are human beings, not human doings.” In fact, I’ve pledged to live by that simple mantra a time or twenty.
But sometimes, my heart forgets to inform my brain of my good intentions.
I wonder, how do I BE more and DO less but still DO all things I need to in order to BE? Sound confusing? Yes, its confusing to me too. Here’s one thing I know, if I ask Him to help me, I’ll surely learn to BE more.
This living outside the box thing could turn out to be quite an adventure!
Thanks to Ann Voskamp, Dispatches from a Good News Girl is a NEW addition to my favorite things…
