A brand new month started this week! Did you get your February budget done? If not, that should be your priority for today:
create the plan and follow the plan to reach your goals.
One thing to start thinking about with this month’s budget is summer vacation or, if you have kids, planning for summer camp.
If you are local to me, there will be a Summer Camp Expo at the mall on Saturday, March 4th. I would assume the camps would have registrations open that day so I plan to attend with checkbook in hand!
If you want to take the budgeting an extra step, you should also start creating a savings plan for Christmas. If you start saving $50 a month NOW, you would have $500 by November! (You may need more or less than that, I was just using it as an example.)
One great way to save money is to join the Change Challenge through my facebook group, The Brave Budget Community.
Each month, we pay cash for as many things as we can and save the change. On average, participants ( including myself) save $25 a month in change! If you are local to me and would like a FREE savings jar, let me know and I’ll get it to you!
How has your week been?
On Tuesday, I was speaker #1 at Toastmasters and won Best Speaker!
This was my fourth speech from the manual and it was entitled, “Build a Better Budget”. The video from the speech is on my Speaking page.
I am actively looking for paid speaking engagements! If you or someone you know is involved in a group that needs speakers, please contact me so we can discuss topic and budget. I can also do a speech with a workshop.

Have you done your monthly meal planning yet?
I have TWO options to help you:
1. Hello Fresh, meal delivery service.
Click HERE to receive $40 off your first order!
2. $5 Dinners: Crock Pot meals, freezer meals and more!
Click HERE to view options. My favorite is the Crock Pot meal plans!
Why should you plan your meals? It saves time, frustration and last minute pizza ordering or going through the drive-through. Personally, I use a free monthly calendar like this:
I write one meal in each block which helps me to rotate through our meal list and plan out dinners based on our activities of the week.
Typically, we use Hello Fresh for three nights during the week, have leftovers one night, some variation of pizza (order out, frozen, English muffin pizzas, pizza pockets) one night, a crock pot meal and an additional meal based on what’s on sale at the grocery store that week.
I highlight ingredients I need to purchase at the store that week. For example, if we are having crock pot lasagna we usually have salad so I would write
CP Lasagna + salad in the calendar block.
I would have the ingredients for the lasagna on hand but wait until the day of or the day before to buy the salad ( We buy salad in a bag for the convenience). When I highlight “salad” in the block, I know I have to add that to the grocery list for that week.
Speaking of a grocery list, if you haven’t tried online shopping for groceries, I HIGHLY recommend it! Personally, I do my weekly grocery shopping at Lowes Foods – it’s so easy to complete the online order and then drive to the store to pick it up! I don’t even have to get out of the car! AND, shopping this helps me stay on budget because I can see my total as I am putting items in the online cart.
A friend of mine posted this week about how much she loved the online grocery shopping feature through Amazon. I’m not sure if it’s available in my local area yet. Have you tried this service? I’d love to know your thoughts on it!
Money Tip: The amount of money you budget for gas ( for the car) should be based on an amount that is $.15 higher than the current price. That way, you will always come UNDER budget on gas and you won’t panic when gas prices go UP!
I’m finishing the office “purge project” today! I LOVE how much bigger the office feels since it has been cleaned out AND all my supplies and files are organized. Makes life SO much easier!
Today’s goal is to finish labeling file folders and filing and I have one more bin to purge. I’ll post before and after pictures next week!
Registration end TOMORROW (the 5th) for the Monthly Coaching Program. Registration link is HERE
I’ll be scheduling an online webinar to teach people how to create and follow the “debt snowball method” for dumping debt. This will be a fee-based webinar. Details will be in the Money Monday blog post.
I hope you have a great week – remember, daily tasks turn into weekly accomplishments!
